NATHANIEL RATELIFF & THE NIGHT SWEATS: LIVE IN QUEBEC

Nathaniel Rateliff was an act I was quite familiar with after living in Nashville during a big Americana boom. His song Song of a Bitch was literally everywhere. When I saw he was making his way up to Canada with his band, the Night Sweats, I knew I needed to reach out and make the connection that I was now up here as well. Thankfully things worked out and I got to do a poster for his show in Quebec City. It’s a gorgeous city with a lot of personality and I knew I had to put into the poster.

We ended up going in the direction of this retro newspaper filled with ads, coupons, clippings, comics, and more. I’ll admit the design leans a little more towards the page of a comic book or yellowpages than a newspaper… but it’s all so fun who’s paying that close of attention.

A common theme in my drawing is “easter eggs”. I like to fit little hidden references or jokes in to concert posters anywhere I can, to give the fans reasons to look at it longer, or give them a little moment of joy after it’s been on their wall for years and they just notice something new.

This poster is full of references to NR&NS songs, albums, and history, Quebec icons, relevant pop culture, original jokes, and more. Even some Simpsons references, because I think about the Simpsons on average about every 13 seconds.

Some signed artist proofs may still be available in my online shop! Head there now to check it out.
